Not So Bubbly

New here? Start here...

Recently I went to my local dreaded Wal-Mart to do a grocery run and every time I do this I swing down the household cleaning aisle to see if they have anything new and non-toxic for me to do my thing when it comes to cleaning up my house.

This time I swung by and was pleasantly surprised that I found Mrs. Meyers Clean Day Liquid Dish Soap (Basil Scent) and it was on sale for $3.00 a bottle. Hayo! I bought that thing up and brought it home like it was going out of style. I have been wanting to try this brand for awhile now. So here is my review...

First off, the first thing you realize about this soap is that it is a very potent basil smell. It really engulfs the room it is being used in. I am still "eh" on how much I like that. Maybe it's the scent that is making me so indecisive. The basil is so strong that it almost always makes me want to make a pesto or have some sort of spaghetti or rotini pasta in my mouth as I do the dishes. There was a lemon scented option but for some reason I wanted to try the basil. I mean come on, it's not every day that you find a basil scented anything. So the guinea pig in me wanted to be curious. I think the thing too that is concerning about how strong the smell is, is that since it is a food-type scent I am worried (irrational fear alert - or is it?) that the smell will attract all bugs, critters, and grubs of the like within a 50 mile radius over to my house for what they think will be a big ol' sit down Italian feast. Food smells attract animals. Plain and simple. And I'm not cool with that. I screech and run from situations like that.

But the soap gets the job done. It cleans the dishes just fine. This doesn't give you tons of foam however, so let's not get our hopes up that we will get bubbles for days with this here bottle.

The majority of the ingredients that make up the soap are being touted as being 97% naturally derived. Which is a plus and 2 thumbs way up for that. Cruelty free and biodegradable bottles? Check and check! Oh and did I mention that it is made in Minnesota? Gotta love that. What's the deal with my Minnesota affections? I have no idea. Any psych majors want a free case study?

So in the end, I guess I would suggest this product. Sheesh...what an underwhelming endorsement ay? Okay, you know what I think the problem is? I really think the basil is what is throwing it all off for me on this. I am going to try the Lemon and then review that one as well. Or just give a little update on it on a separate post altogether. Who knows?

Have any of you tried out Mrs. Meyers products lately or in the past? How do you like it? And has anyone tried the Lemon scented dish soap and can save me the typing time and instead I can just put a link to your review? Haha! 2 thumbs up for blog slothness...

So...About That Blog...

I'm baaaack! I have been gone awhile doing some other world things. Working and all that jazz. But now I am working on a different schedule and trying to make sure that this here space keeps words on it still.

It's a total shame that I have let the cobwebs grow on this here place for almost a whole month. For shame Lynn!

So today I will just give you a little teaser alert for Tuesdays post.

I bought a new dish detergent. And I think that I like it. The jury is still out on it. I am weighing it in the balance still and I will definitely be taking it to task for all of you.

Tune in tomorrow and see what's what.

My best,
Song of the Week: Angus & Julia Stone "Walk It Off". They are a sibling duo that harmonize like nobodys business. They remind me of the line that Ben Folds said during last years "The Sing Off" - "no one can harmonize better than actual blood related relatives" - or something along those lines. Just enjoy the music and tell me what you think.

Oh Honey, Honey...

Is it just me or do any of you hate allergens too? I hate how they stick to my car, my fro (oh yeah, it happens!), my innards. I once sneezed 8 times in a row while standing in my kitchen and all the while horrified because that attack came simultaneous to me washing dishes and holding our big ol' butchers knife. I could feel the wooziness setting in before each sneeze but they came so quickly I had hardly any time to comprehend if I was dropping the knife into the sink of suds or directly onto my waiting toes below. Thankfully, I still have all my piggies.

I haven't been consuming hardly any sugar and if or when I do, I make sure that it is practically right after I am done with my exercise workout. I do my last crunch and on the sit up I grab a ginger snap and pop it into my mouth. My rationalization is that it is immediately burned up upon entry from my wicked metabolism firing on all cylinders. I may be slightly delusional.

I must be doing something right though because this time last year I was laid up for almost a whole month with a sinus infection that went to my chest. I think its the combination of exercising, cutting out practically all refined sugars and HFCS (I just hate typing out high fructose corn syrup - doh!) so now I will just abbreviate it with it's initials from now on. I justthought of that. Thweet! Anyway, back to what I was saying...yes, I don't know what it is exactly that is helping, but something is definitely helping these days.

My friend "Denbar" gave me a juicy natural allergy remedy. She said that every day she takes a tablespoon of raw local honey that she literally buys from a lady under a bridge. Yes we told her all the jokes in the book from "Are you sure it's honey?" to "Does she bring just one jar for you or is it a legit display of many jars?" and the classic "Does she sell it out of her trench coat like those guys who sell fake Rolex's in Central Park?". Despite all the jokes she swears by it, and the joke is probably on us because when I think about it, she gets sick only once a year. That's it. One major cold and it's usually the actual flu. But the sniffles, ah-choos, red eyes, and overall discomfort that the rest of us have when the wind shifts - she suffers from none of that.

So maybe she's onto something, ay? Have you heard of such a thing? Local honey to help with the local pollen attacks? What do you guys use to ward off allergens in your life? Dish.
