New here? Start here...
This is a note from your legs. They dropped me an email over the weekend. (How they learned to type I will never know. Every family has a little circus sideshow in em right?) They said that they want to continue looking their best but that we as their masters need to do something to ensure that.
What on earth could that be? I shot back an email asking them what it was that we needed to do and basically their email said "What do we look like, the brains of this outfit? Helloooo, we are legs. We are contacting you so that you can use your noggin and find out the answer to that question for us. Duh." Those legs are a fresh bunch aren't they?
So I took the ball and ran with it. I looked up how to ensure that our legs look their best and one of the ways we can do that is by sitting correctly. When you sit down - ladies and men - how do you cross your legs? Let's see if this visual works...when you sit do you sit like an X or a 4? Get it? I think you get it. For the same reason that I loved Frasier and how they never dumbed it down because they had faith in their audiences knowledge. As do I here.
Now if you sit like a pretzel or cross your legs at the knee that is a no no. Here's why. When you do that you can cut the circulation in your veins and that can lead to none other than those sometimes painful vericose veins or "spider" veins. Those are the blue or red veins that you can really see under the skin that have a jagged tree branch look about them. Our veins have valves that prevent blood from flowing backwards as it pumps through the legs (in my younger years I was a certified phlebotomist), but if the valve becomes weak the blood starts collects back in the vein.
Here are 3 ways to prevent those veins from popping up.
- Do not cross your legs at the knees.
- Do not wear tight slacks or skin constricting tights. Sorry skinny jeans.
- Get moving and walk around about every 30 minutes to get circulation going.
Instead, try and sit like this. We call this the "Princess Pose" in our house. Just cross them at the ankles.
And for the fellas, try this out for size...cause spider veins don't discriminate, they can affect you too!
Sheesh...what does this family have against socks and shoes?
Healthy legs for one and all. Hopefully this post will appease "the legs" and I won't get any more passive aggressive emails from them anytime soon.
Song of the Week: This weeks song is from one of my favorite coming of age bands. OK Go has had some of the best music I have ever owned. They also have some of the best music videos as well. This weeks song has 2 pretty cool versions of "This Too Shall Pass" here and here. I have a hard time picking my favorite between the two. Which one do you like best?
