Mums The Word....Update

I CAN SPEAK AGAIN! a Poem by Lynn....

Thank you ginger tea. Thank you garlic. And lemon peel you too. Who knew that you would care for me so delicately in my time of need? I knew not of your natural powers that would make my laryngitis cower at the very thought of my consumption of YOU! - finger snaps - fade to black - end scene -

My best,

*All 3 ingredients ended up curing my laryngitis in the form of tea boiled on the stove. I put the peel of 1 lemon, a chunk of fresh ginger and 1 semi-crushed garlic bulb in a pot filled with water and then boiled it for about 10 minutes, poured it into a mug, put a dollop of honey and drank about 5 cups a day for 2 days and that was it. Perfection. And no amoxicillin needed! :o)

Song of the Week: My daughter and I have been starting our days off with this beautiful diddy courtesy of Sesame Street "I Love My Hair". (Name dropper moment: I wrote the creator of this song a private thank you message on Facebook and he actually took the time to write back -too cool for school that one....:o)

Mums The Word

Did You Know...(remember these?)
...that laryngitis is an inflammation of your voice box (larynx) from overuse, irritation or infection...which can lead to the loss of your voice.

Hence. This. Post.

Today makes 5 days with no voice to speak of (ba dum bump). I've got the 'gitis bad. I usually get a sinus infection every other month but since going off of sugar for most of the summer they have been way fewer and much farther in between.

But maybe it was all the end of the season BBQ's and Back-to-School parties where I may or may not have overindulged in cupcakes, baklava, and any ol' brand of ice cream they had available at the time that have brought me to my current state.

Yeah, that's probably it.

So here I am having to be in the same room with whomever I'm trying to talk to or discipline. And trying every homeopathic cure that anyone will throw my way. Here are a few remedies I've tried.

  • Gargling an 8 oz. glass of kosher salt water a few times a day.
  • Drink 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar in a cup of water every hour for 7 hours in a row. (Worked for about an hour or two but then lost it again)
  • Made my familys bread soup recipe (shhh it's a secret - not really, but if you reeeeeally want it I'm willing to share)

All this and.....NADA! Nothing has definitively worked for me in this situation. What to do? What to do? Anyone have any suggestions? I'm up for anything. I'm only giving it one more day and then off to the Doctors office I go! I don't want to die....

My best,

Song of the Week: Although other than the chorus I have no clue what on earth he's singing, this weeks song is from Elvis Costello "I Can't Stand Up for Falling Down". I really can't stand having to concentrate on my health this early in life. (I'm almost 30 who am I kidding?)

Ay Yo Vinny! (The many benefits of vinegar...)

So do you all see that MONDO jug on the far right? That is the one that I make sure to have in my pantry at all times. I use vinegar for so many things around this little ol' house that it is not even funny. Well...it's kinda funny I guess. My husband is always saying "There she goes with the vinegar again." For me, I guess it's my equivalent of the Greek dads Windex in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding". Just short of squirting it on a wart (I've never had one of those but I've read that vinegar helps with that too!) I do use it for just about everything in everyday life.

Here are some examples....

  • Let's just say that one day you realize that you forgot a load of laundry in the washer and now it's a stinky mess just sitting there. Splash about 1/2 cup of white vinegar into the washer along with the soap and it will knock out any muskiness present and it acts like a fabric softener as well. All natural baby!
  • You've got spots on your nice glass mirrors? Kids think it's funny to play tic tac toe with peanut butter fingers on the glass (happened!)? Make a mixture of vinegar/water equal parts and take a cloth and wipe down the mirrors with that. Initially it will smell like vinegar but only for about a minute - no lie. Then you have a nice streak free shine without the chemical hangover.
  • Stinky sink or hands after a dirty job? Put a splash of vinegar on your hands and wash them to help reduce the smell that way. Run a sink full of water and 1/4 cup vinegar to that and it should help neutralize the smell in the sink.
  • I have never heard of this but some claim that rubbing some full strength vinegar on a tooth and surrounding gums will help with the pain.
  • It can also be a great hair rinse. It helps to cut through product buildup and any shampoo residue. Here is a simple recipe: vinegar hair rinse
So do I love vinegar? YES! YES! YES! And so should you.... Oh and did I mention that it is a pretty cheap staple as well? Check it out and you'll see. :o)

My best,

Song of the Week: Jam on this! Yello "Oh Yeah". Depending on when you were born or how far back you can remember this song to you is either the Ferris Bueller song or the Twix song. Either way it's still enjoyable today.

Cancer Cured? Really? I Think So...

New posts Mondays.
New here? Start here...

Okay so I really try and do the right things in life and live a relatively healthy existence. But this movie here? Blew my mind and has opened a new window into the possibilities of my life and others. It talks about how a Dr. Max Gerson from way back when made a therapy that has scientifically been proven to cure cancer. Look into it for yourself and loved ones and if anyone has heard of this before I MOST DEFINITELY want to hear from you.

My best,

Song of the Week: "It's a Beautiful Morning" by The Rascals. Indeed it is!
